Favourite Christmas Songs #Blogmas Day 10

Holla! Welcome to the Day 10 of Gelax Chatroom’s Blogmas 2019. I know, better late than never right?

Blogmas - Gelax Chatroom

Here is a compilation of songs that made my Christmas as a child, plus a bonus. Happy listening!

1. Feliz Navidad – I Wanna Wish You a Merry Christmas

There can never be a favourite Christmas songs list for me without Feliz Navidad. What! This song literally sums up my entire childhood Christmas. We sang it everywhere – school, church, at home, you just name it.

Remember all those choreographies we did when we were young; where you have to wear white gloves, white socks, white shirt and black skirt/trousers? Oh my gosh… there was absolutely no Christmas service or party without “I wanna wish you a merry Christmas, from the bottom of my heart” choreography.

2. We Wish A Merry Christmas

This was another carol constant in my childhood. I don’t think there’s anyone who grew up in Nigeria, regardless of their religion, who does not know this song. It is a jam for centuries. I love it!

3. Joy To The World

My favourite part of this Christmas song is the chorus for each verse. I’ll tell you why; it is repetitive and very easy to remember.

And heaven and nature sing
And heaven and nature sing
And heaven, and heaven and nature sing

Repeat the sounding joy
Repeat the sounding joy
Repeat, repeat the sounding joy

You see, here is a fun fact about me. I am so terrible with lyrics, it is almost pathetic. Gosh! It has gotten to a stage it embarrasses me no more. When I sing songs now, I mumble the parts I don’t know aloud. It’s called, “Owning Your Flaws.” I like to think this flaw makes me really special *wink*

4. Hark the Herald Angels Sing

I love the song but I think the Nigerian versions sung by children and older women in our churches sound way cooler than this, but hey, you’ve got to make do with this version!

5. Jingle Bells

Honestly, other than “Jingle bells jingle bells, jingle all the way,” I have not a single idea what the other lyrics of this song says. No joke! To think I’ve been singing it since my mama’s womb… pheeew, Bolaji!

6. Loneliest Time of the Year

So, this last song is definitely not from my childhood. As a matter of fact, it was released last month but the video came out about two weeks ago..

I know this is a really sad song but I was love from the very first listen. I couldn’t ignore the fact that as much as Christmas is generally the happiest time of the year, it isn’t so for everyone. There are many people out there who dread Christmas because of the sad memories it brings or for what they’ve lost or wish they had. This is a favourite Christmas song for that reason. I appreciate Mabel for singing to the heart of those who need this.

I hope you like my list. Please share in the comment section what songs are your favourite Christmas songs. Next post will be a list of my favourite Nigerian Christmas songs.

Christmas is just 8 days away, Merry Christmas in advance lovers!
