Y’all, it’s my birthday week and you can still ask me any question.
After reading the beautiful Wonani’s Dear 30 Year Old Me, I decided I was going to write a letter to my near future self. Thirty-five is the lucky age!
You can read my other letters HERE.
First thing first, ARE YOU HAPPY? Yes, I know you are a defaultly happy child, but right now, in this minute of your Thirty-Fifth year, can you honestly say that you are happy happy?
I hope you are.
But if for whatever reason you are not, babe, get you the friggin’ hell out of there now!
I didn’t work my butts off, rebel, break rules, face hardships, take the riskiest risks, make tough decisions, question the status quo, push barriers heads-on, form great networks and intentionally live every moment of our formative years for you to end up miserable and unhappy!
So, you better tell me you are happy happy, otherwise, I’ll tell you I don’t know who the heck you are. But you know what? I bet you’re happy because durrr… You are ME, the Bolaji Gelax!
Eeerm… Just to be sure… you’re really happy, right? I mean, WE ARE happy happy happy, yeah?
By the way, do you still talk like this? With so much energy and enthusiasm? You know, I was going to write “BTW” but got worried you may not remember what that means 😅. Woo-hoo, you had better still be cool and hippie, nitori mi o raye gbogbo old school lapel iranu oshi kankan o. Besides, I bet we still don’t look our age. Isn’t it?!
What’s up, you’re married now, yeah? Is he the guy I kissed passionately the other day? Did you work things out with him? I really hope you did, ’cause he’s a keeper. But hey, whoever hubby is, I’m sure you love him and he’s worth doing life with. He loves us too, yeah? Us because there’s no loving you without loving me as well.
Hope our mothers didn’t sleep on the mountain before you decided to tie the knots? Girl, I know you’re crazy but please tell me you did not make them wait that long.😅
Oh, did we have a small intimate wedding or a society wedding? Whichever it was, I am certain you had the most fun. Pleaseee, tell me you did not do the do on your wedding night! Omo, you had better not! *Side eye*
How many kids do we have now? Did you give our first daughter that beautiful name we’ve always loved? Wait, do we even have a daughter? Have you adopted yet? If yes, how many? If not, what the heck is delaying you?
I’m not even going to ask if you now cook. The you I know is irredeemable!😂
Please, please, please, tell me 25th Foundation has finally kicked off. How many beneficiaries do we have now? What about Leah Monet’s Foundation? Are we still passionate about children with special needs and hunger eradication?
I don’t need to ask, I already know dreams come true. God has been really good to us, hasn’t He? Did the fruition of those lofty dreams make you cry as hard as I think? How was our first award speech? Are we International now, baby? How many awards have we bagged? Are we still passionate about TV and filmmaking? How many Stars have we brought to limelight? Please tell me they’ve started bagging awards too!
Do you still blog? Started that podcast? Resumed YouTube or do we now have our very own reality show on cable TV? Girl, that would be wild!!!
Hey, do you still scream unprovoked? I really hope you haven’t stopped. Maybe more poised with it now sha. On a second thought, screw poise! I hope we remain like a 5-year-old girl who screams, laughs, giggles and dances like eating yummy spaghetti is the best thing ever!
We do have money now, right? Like we are rich and famous, aren’t we? Ah, it’s been a long time coming. And God is ever faithful!
How is the relationship between you and O.C. Attack? Have you bought a car each for our mothers? What have you done for the Apanisiles and Adekunle-Iloris? How often do you tell your siblings you love them? Do you still fight for them? Planned that surprise appreciation-dinner for all our friends who have been supportive of us yet?
Bolaji Gelax, remember our vow to always be humble and appreciative no matter how good life gets? Do we still have a heart that genuinely loves and wants to see other people grow? Are you still Miss Flowery in every sense of the word?
How large is the Galaxy now? Gosh, the thought of what you must have made of that just made me grin.
Got those braces? Oh great! Insert a close-up ad worthy picture right here as evidence! 😁
Finally, I want to say that I am proud of the woman you’ve become. Thank you for not giving up. Thank you for breaking the glass ceiling. Thank you for choosing to be happy no matter what, for loving and for allowing us to be loved.
Gelax, we deserve every good thing that has and still is coming to us. Never lose yourself, joy or light for anything.
Once again, thank you for still being me, in a better version.
Nobody on earth loves and roots for you more than me. Remember, You are ME and as such, never stop being your biggest cheerleader.
Once, always & forever,
