Shortest Relationship I Ever Had πŸ’”

Holla! Good to have you back on the blog.

I came across a tweet on my timeline last week with the question, “How Long Was Your Shortest Relationship?” I have a funny story about my shortest relationship, how long it was and why it ended, and I thought to share with y’all.

This is a two-in-one tale. The first is about my shortest relationship ever and the other is how my first and proper shooting my shot went. I promise, it’s a fun read πŸ˜‰

My Shortest Relationship Ever

It must have been sometime in 2010/2011, honestly can’t remember when exactly, but I was on a relationship hiatus. See, when I broke up with my first boyfriend, I promised myself I wasn’t going to be involved in a serious relationship. Emphasis on ‘serious’ because there were a couple of flings and skip-schushes. I guess you can say I had a fun late teenage years 😁

Anyway, I needed to be fully over my ex whom I had loved to stupor, before committing myself into another relationship. I’ve always thought one needed to be completely rid of a former relationship and its baggage before entering the next; so I went on a 4-year ‘serious relationship’ hiatus. It was during this time that I carried my peperenpe self and followed my friend, Mo, to her father’s house in Ondo State for a wedding ceremony.

Man, that wedding was lit! I had such a great time. Of course, I was the last person to leave the dance floor, as per, life of the party that I am. I danced so much, one would have thought it was my wedding or that I was related to the couple. Mo would later tell me how the bride kept asking where she found me… Lol.

Ah yes, I’ll always be thankful that Mo didn’t end my life and deprive the world of the awesome Miss Flowery during that trip. Do you know Lewis Hamilton? If you don’t, I think you should google him. Well, my friend, Mo, is the Ondo-Naija Lewis Hamilton wannabe. I can never understand why she liked to speed on our Nigerian roads… Phew! My dearest sister’s sister’s sister, Lamlad is also on this table. Yes, I said it! *picks race*

Anyway, back to my gist..

As it would turn out, I left an impression on quite a few persons at the ceremony. The subject of today’s story was one of them. And for the love of mischiefs, I’m choosing to call him Dickson. That’s Dick for short but no, he’s not a dick. Okay, I should probably stop now, yep, I should and I am. Let’s just stick to Dickson, yeah? πŸ˜‚

Dickson and I started talking after the wedding and guy wouldn’t stop talking about how much he liked me. All of my explanations about not wanting to be in a serious relationship fell on deaf ears. Dude was persistent, gosh! It didn’t help that I liked him too, I just wasn’t ready. Long story short, I agreed to date him, on trial (don’t judge). He was over the moon promising he would see to it that I fell head over heels for him before the two weeks elapsed. I said all right, Dickson we started dating.

I really didn’t have a problem with saying yes to him because I thought since we did not attend the same school, it was going to be a walk in the park. {By the way, I have a post on Long Distance Relationship sitting in my draftπŸ˜ƒ}. This was towards the end of a school session and I was busy planning the collabo dinner party my first-aid association, St. George’s Ambulance Foundation and Red Cross had.

Apparently, Dickson took our relationship seriously because, even though we spoke every day and he said lots of sweet nothings to me over the phone, dude took it a notch higher by paying me a surprise visit. I won’t lie, I was pleasantly surprised and it felt good. He said he came to help me with the final preparations for the dinner party and of course, to solidify our trial relationship.

I should have been happy, right? Well…

The truth was that I was already liking Dickson. This dude had just left his school (private university at that), travelled all the way down to mine to support me and try working out our relationship. I was sad because I knew I wasn’t going to take it further than the 14 days trial.

Yes, I know, don’t say it! 😞

There was Dickson all hopeful and helpful, and SWEET, my gosh! He had no clue what was coming. He couldn’t even have guessed how hard I was struggling to play it cool so I wouldn’t ruin his little vacation and fun by betraying my emotions too early. Well, events can only last for so long. Party was over. Curtains were drawn and I was left with Dick. Oops, πŸ™Š sorry, I meant Dickson.

Dude was happy he now had my full attention. It was time to talk about taking our relationship to the next level. Phew! There was no excuses I could give to avoid the inevitable conversation.

So yeah, we had a long one. Skies! I wish I could give a descriptive detail of how it went down, but I sincerely do not remember. It was definitely one of those memories I work really hard to repress.

However, I can tell you that when he was returning to his school, neither of us was happy, even if it was for different reasons.

Him: because he knew he had succeeded in making me feel something for him yet I insisted on not giving us a chance.

.
Me: because I truly had feelings for him but my stubborn self didn’t think I was ready to come out of my ‘serious relationship’ hiatus.

I agree, it was messed up.

Now you know how long my shortest relationship was and why it ended. I’d like to read your story. So do tell us (the #Galaxy and I)

i) How long was your shortest relationship?
ii) Why did you guys break up?

PS: I decided this story deserved to stand alone so I’ll be posting about Shooting My Shot’ and how it went down in another post.

  1. Well, I once had a 2-week relationship. I must say that it was blissful. She had someone who was interested in her as did I. But we had an intellectual connection as well as a physical one. We decided we’d date each other for just two weeks. It was pure, adventurous and really romantic. At the end of it, we both contemplated going all in, but we knew what was at stake.

I believe the reason short relationships are very memorable is because we ‘bask in’ (for the lack of a better phrase) the beauty, romance and love that come with the early or formative period of relationship. We enjoy am when e still dey hot.

As TαΊΉjΓΊ Cole says “objects, sometimes more powerfully than faces, remind us of what was and no longer is.”
When such relationships elapse, we hold strongly onto the sweet memories made in the short period they lasted; that’s why they are memorable and we want to relive them sometimes.

    1. You got me ‘awwwning’ and blushing like a little girl. I guess it was that blissful because you guys didn’t stay in it long enough πŸ˜€

I agree, they do come with sweet memories 😊

  3. My shortest relationship lasted 3 days. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

My friends introduced me to this guy. Fine bobo and all that. It was like at first sight so when he asked some out I didn’t do all that I’ll think about it buhaha. Then I got to realise the reason my friends actually introduced us was because the guy had money and they needed a girl to help them milk money out of him. I wasn’t down for all that rubbish. Even though I liked him, I had to end things.

    3 days. What a shame.

    2. Poor dude. But I am curious to know please, did you give him a clue to ur friends mission or fear not to break table! Did u sacrifice wot could have been a lovely relationship for sake of ur friendship? They will likely find someone to continue from where you stopped. Just pondering on wot went tru ur mind before deciding to end things with him.πŸ€”πŸ€”

  4. My shortest relationship lasted for a semester back in my 100lvl 2nd semester, everything started quite alright but as freshmen I guess the pressure especially being in the same department didn’t actually help matters. After a mutual discussion we realized we both wanted something more and different.

    2+
    1. A semester is at least 3-4 months, yeah? That means you guys did okay πŸ‘

I like when people break up after having a proper conversation and agreeing they need to part ways. It just makes life easier, really.

  5. Shortest relationship as far I remember lasted a week during my undergrad days. Bros was really relationship-starved and I was that undergrad who was still trying to find her feet. So, it became so overwhelming and I had to japa so that I could breathe.

    1. Mad oh! See me thinking my record was bad but here you are with a one-week affair😁😁

I’m glad you japa’d. I bet the bros found himself another sister in no time

  6. Mine was three days.

This older guy was killing me with calls, begging, giving his people my number to call and beg, saying he has found a wife / lover in me. My God! It was the most horrible 1month of 2019. Meanwhile, I did my findings along time ago and knew he was married with three boys. I knew. I pretended not to know just to see how far he would take it. So all the calls he made were recorded to be used against his ass in the near future. I wanted to drag him down.

But, God used my sis to change my mind. She convinced me that he wasn’t worth it and his wife probably knows he’s a cheat.

So after saying yes on New year’s eve to get call record as evidence, I broke up with him with all the receipts I have in a zip file🀣🀣🀣.

The file contained all our calls, I highlighted the one I accused him of being married where he was swearing with his life that he wasn’t and had no kidsπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚, I attached his family portrait, his kids and his boss. I told him if he disturbs me again the zip file will be sent to his wife and boss.
PS: he is a decon whose official work is in the church.

  7. My shortest relationship lasted 1 week. We’ve known each other from early years and managed to keep in touch even after gaining admission to different distanced schools. She decided to visit my school for a seminar, buzzed me she’s coming because of me. We talked about our present relationship then and find out we weren’t in any relationship, serious or fling!…Nada. We agreed to date as we had soft spot for each other regardless of the distance. So on a Sunday we agreed we officially dating. Introduce her to my boys, went on a “cruise” dates as fits students budget (Evening Love garden hang out, Ocean View Sit out, Ozone Cinemas, White house joint, and sometimes I “sneaked” her into the school main library) We had some cool memories together…and then it was time for her to travel back to school!

She went back on a Friday, we spoke about everything (In depth talk I can’t share here now) and came to a realization, we can’t handle long distance relationship. We can handle long distance friendship though. So we stuck to that and officially called it off on a Sunday while maintaining our friendship.

In retrospect…we could have handled it differently if we knew what we know now. After all, I felt she used me to catch trips, she felt I used her to catch trips, but then we both realized none was ready to compromise on some long distance relationship stance, that’s the koko.

We started without addressing that and ended before we could even try.

Well she’s married happily ever after now, we both good but she’s always stressing me to “go and marry” πŸ˜€.

    Some memories Gelax is waking.
    Eku ise oo!

  9. No relationship, more like crush😍. My shortest crush was 3 minutesπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
I was thinking he’s cute and developing feelings but he looked right at me, my heart skipped a beat and then he said:
“Dustbin girl, pick up the cover”

We were sitting in front of a dustbin, which had a fallen lid. I looked down, saw it, looked at him and he said: “Pick it up!”

In that moment, feelings left immediately. I blamed myself, told myself I hadn’t left from my last experience.
After him, I’ve had a few crushes, two to three max

Now, I don’t know how to fall in love and literally can’t. Till today, I separate my emotions so cleanly and mechanically, crushes don’t exist anymore

Disclaimer: I was eight or nine when this story occurred so don’t judge me too harshly😁😁. Also not his fault, he just compounded a really bad experience from a while before 😊😊

    1+
    1. Oh my days! I had such a good laughπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

But it wasn’t that bad nowπŸ˜€ boy was just more concerned about the dustbin lid at the timeπŸ˜‚

      Funny story! ❀
