Top Songs & Music Videos (of the week) #2

It’s another episode of my top songs and music videos of the week, January 2020. These songs/videos were selected based on how they made me feel and a very few, based on personal bias (don’t judge). Regardless of how they made my list, these are all good music (I think).

TOP SONGS

  1.  Jonas Brothers – What A Man Gotta Do

Please, can the Jonas Brothers’ fans gather here and raise up their hands. Thank you.

Oh gosh! I loveeeeeee the Jonas. I contemplated putting up the video to the song or just the song and well, you already know my choice. That’s because, I need you to focus on the song before finding the video. Yeah, you can thank me later 😁

This is an absolutely, amazingly great song. Considering that Valentine is just around the corner, consider this upbeat love song a great choice for whatever you have planned for that day. *wink*

2. Ladipoe – Tailor Made

Dear Ladipoe, I felt you put your heart in the verses of this track and you got the stitches right. Thanks for this. I likeeeee!

3. Lil Kesh – Kowope

Yeah, I don’t know how but this song did make my list.

Honestly, I was expecting this to be a “gbo gbo, gba gba,” pangolo kinda music but this turned out nice. I like the beat, the lyrics, melody and his delivery on this song. I’ve listened to it more than… I can’t even count, guys. But of course, Lil Kesh sings in Yoruba, which means if you do not understand the language, you may need a translator. That’s if you care for something other than the beat of a track.

By the way, is it just me or when Lil Kesh sings about Ishe (working hard), the song turns out deep and nice?

Take a listen and let me know what you think about Lil Kesh’s Kowope.

TOP VIDEOS

  1. Alicia Keys – Underdog

I loveee Alicia Keys. Man, I don’t even think there’s anyone who knows her who doesn’t like her. Right? I bet I’m right.

Anyway, I totally like this song and the video is really fun. I LOVE the message of the song and something about the video reminds me of this line of Snoop Dogg, Wiz Khalifa & Bruno Mars’ “Young, Wild and Free”

“So what we get drunk”
“So what we smoke weed”
“We're just having fun”
“We don’t care who sees”
“So what we go out”
“That’s how it’s supposed to be”
“Living young and wild and free…”

This video should have been on my list last week, but… here we are. hope you enjoy it as much as I did. I am definitely a hustler! So I’m gonna rise up. Are you?

The video was directed by Wendy Morgan

2. Yemi Alade – Remind You

This, I think, is a beautiful piece of work. I like the melody of the song, Yemi’s voice {of course, no saying} and I think the video is clean. I love the story line and the twist at the end. If I were to rate this video, I’d give it a 71/2 over 10.

The video which starred Djimon Honsou was directed by Ovie Etseyatse and released January 22, 2020. Please, watch the video and see if you agree with me.

3. Missy Elliott – Why I Still Love You

Not the Missy we are used to but I like the song. I loved that she showed off her great vocals on this one. not sure how I feel about the video yet though, but something tells me it might grow on me. However, with that said, I do have to say, I liked the theme of the video, which was was directed by Derek Blanks & Missy Elliott and released January 16, 2020.

The question is, “Why the hell I still love you?”

“But I’m gonna be alright”
